The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CCFFAA) held a coordination meeting to ensure security during the elections to be held nationwide on Sunday, October 4.
"ONPE interim chief Bernardo Pachas and officials from our institution met with the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Cesar Briceño, and his team to coordinate security measures for the regional and municipal elections," said a post on X.
During the meeting, updates were shared on documents prepared by ONPE outlining the Armed Forces' role.
"ONPE and the Joint Command of the Armed Forces maintain permanent coordination channels for the October 4 elections," the electoral body said on its official account.
It also thanked the institution that brings together all the Armed Forces for "its willingness to maintain these coordination spaces, which contribute to the proper conduct of the elections."
More than 26 million voters will cast their ballots in the subnational elections to elect a total of 13,148 regional and municipal authorities:
- 25 governors.
- 25 regional vice governors.
- 364 regional councilors.
- 196 provincial mayors.
- 1,696 district mayors.
- 1,724 provincial councilors.
- 9,118 district councilors.
To this end, more than 10,000 polling places have been set up across more than 1,000 districts and 2,000 population centers.
