Year-on-year growth in mortgage lending reached 7.1% in February 2026, with the outstanding balance totaling S/75.447 billion (about US$21.761 billion) as of that month, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

This increase in home purchase loans was mainly driven by year-on-year growth in mortgage credit granted in local currency, which rose 8% in February.

In monthly terms, mortgage credit rose 0.5% in February compared with January, driven by loans granted in soles, which increased 0.6%.

It added that the preference for financing in domestic currency for home purchases remains in place.

Last February, only 5.5% of loans in this category were granted in U.S. dollars, while the remainder were denominated in soles, the BCR specified.
