Peru's 2026 Elections: When does voting start and end?

13:09 | Lima, Apr. 6.

The 2026 General Elections will be held this Sunday, April 12. More than 27 million Peruvians are set to go to the polls to cast their ballots and elect the new authorities who will steer the country over the next five years.

Find out what time Peruvian citizens can go to polling places to vote and when polling tables close.

Law No. 32166 was enacted in 2024, amending the Organic Law of Elections in several aspects, including those related to voting hours.

According to the amendment to Article 249, polling tables must be set up before 7:00 a.m. (local time), as voting begins at that time.

Likewise, it states that voting takes place until 5:00 p.m. However, this is not when polling tables close.

Article 274, also amended, later specifies that polling places close at 5:00 p.m.

In that regard, it states that heads of polling tables will accept votes from all voters who entered the polling place before closing time, meaning voting may continue slightly beyond that hour.

It should be noted that the previous schedule under the Organic Law of Elections ran from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and was repealed by the amendment.

The General Elections will be held on April 12, 2026, with a potential runoff for the presidential race scheduled for June 7 of the same year.

This electoral process will allow citizens to go to the polls to elect the next President of the Republic, Vice Presidents, Senators, Deputies, and Representatives to the Andean Parliament.
