on Thursday called on Peruvians and fellow citizens living abroad selected as polling station members for the 2026 General Elections to take part in the June 7 voting day for the presidential runoff.
"The runoff will take place soon. Let polling station members report for duty, and let the largest possible number of Peruvians also go. Many live far from the constituency where they have to vote, so let them organize themselves in groups," he stated.
The government official made the remarks at Parliament, following a courtesy visit to acting Congress Chairman Fernando Rospigliosi, during which issues related to Foreign Affairs were discussed.
"We also spoke with the Congress chairman about the issue of Peruvian citizens who are in Russia fighting in the war with Ukraine. It is regrettable, and we are very, very concerned," he said.
In that context, the minister reiterated his call for young Peruvians not to be deceived or tempted by financial offers that may seem very attractive.
The high-ranking official warned that such promises ultimately will not materialize and will end with them being sent to the front lines of a war.
"Do not sign those documents, do not go there, because once you arrive in Russia, they require you to hand over your passports," he pointed out.
The Cabinet member announced he will speak with Russia's ambassador to Peru so that country's diplomatic mission becomes involved in the matter.
Asked about a possible pardon for former President Pedro Castillo, the minister said the President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, and the Justice and Human Rights Minister, Luis Enrique Jimenez, had indicated that there is no pardon request.
