Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela led two consecutive working sessions with the heads of Peru's 114 consular offices across five continents to ensure compliance with guidelines ahead of the April 12 General Elections.

During the virtual meeting, the government official underscored that the sector's fundamental task in this process is to guarantee the voting rights of Peruvians abroad.

To that end, ensuring the installation of all 2,497 polling stations worldwide was set as a priority.

At this event, it was reported that election day monitoring will be carried out from the Foreign Ministry's Monitoring Center.

Real-time updates on the progress of the electoral process at the various authorized polling sites will be received there.

Supervision and logistical deployment

It was confirmed that 97% of electoral materials have reached their final destination, with a minimal remainder to be delivered in the coming hours.

Meanwhile, to ensure transparency and strict compliance with current regulations, the following protocols were reaffirmed:

Transmission of electoral records: Consulates will immediately send scanned copies of vote count records to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) prior to the physical return of the material.

Diplomatic pouch: Consular officials will transport and safeguard the return of electoral materials to Lima once the electoral process has concluded.

In accordance with provisions issued by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), the minister instructed consulates to provide the necessary support to citizens over 18 who still hold the yellow National Identity Document (DNI) so they can vote without difficulty.

The General Elections will be held on April 12, 2026, with a potential runoff for the presidential race scheduled for June 7 of the same year.

This electoral process will allow citizens to go to the polls to elect the next President of the Republic, Vice Presidents, Senators, Deputies, and Representatives to the Andean Parliament.
