Yenifer Paredes Navarro —the sister of First Lady Lilia Paredes Navarro— arrived at the Attorney General's Office headquarters on Wednesday afternoon to turn herself in, as the Judiciary had ordered her preliminary detention for 10 days.

This occurred within the framework of investigations into the alleged irregular awarding of public works linked to Anguia Municipality in Chota province, Peru's northern Andean Cajamarca region.

After 5:00 p.m. (local time), Paredes arrived at the Public Ministry-Attorney General's Office facilities on Abancay Avenue, in Downtown Lima.

After approximately one hour, the young woman was transferred to the High Complexity Investigations Division (Diviac) of the National Police of Peru.

Eighth National Preparatory Investigation Court Judge Raul Justiniano Romero had ordered the preliminary arrest of Paredes Navarro, as well as of Anguia Mayor Jose Medina Guerrero, in addition to siblings Hugo Jhony and Anggi Estefani Espino Lucana.

The magistrate had also authorized the raid, lockout, and search of homes of the four people mentioned above.

By virtue of a judicial order, the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of Power, joined by the National Police Special team, arrived at the Government Palace in Lima last Tuesday to enforce the order against Paredes Navarro, who was not located at that time.

Paredes Navarro, the Anguia Mayor, and the Espino Lucana siblings are being investigated for the alleged commission of the crime against public tranquility-criminal organization —conduct provided for and sanctioned in Article 317 of the Criminal Code— as well as for the alleged commission of the crime of money laundering in a criminal organization.

In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.
