The Vice-President of the Republic Dina Boluarte will travel to Colombia, on behalf of President Pedro Castillo, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Gustavo Petro after Congress denied the Head of State authorization to leave the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday.

Via its official Twitter account, the government agency indicated that President Castillo had announced his counterpart Ivan Duque and the President-elect that he will not be able to participate in the aforementioned event set to take place on August 7.

The Peruvian Head of State told both Colombian authorities that he will not attend the presidential transfer of power ceremony due to a decision by Congress.

That is why the top official decided that he will be duly represented by Vice-President Boluarte.

Via letters, Mr. Castillo expressed that Parliament's decision is not consistent with the very high value placed by Peru on its relationship with Colombia.

He also assured that both nations will continue to enrich the bilateral agenda, prioritizing the sustainable development of our peoples.
