If you are thinking of visiting Machu Picchu and experiencing one of the most unforgettable journeys while exploring this world wonder, you should know that significant changes have been made to the virtual ticket sales system, making access easier and allowing more domestic and international travelers to visit or return to the magnificent Inca site, which is a World Heritage Site.

Below are recommendations for travelers interested in visiting Machu Picchu and exploring the Inca Road Network leading to this remarkable Inca legacy:

New entrance ticket purchase mechanism

This phase will last 30 days and will make it possible to monitor the operation of the new direct sales mechanism with confirmed payment, identify areas for improvement, and make the necessary adjustments to optimize user experience.

Tickets are now sold with payment confirmed, and unpaid pending reservations are no longer generated, preventing a ticket from being locked for several hours.

The user selects an available date and time slot and has 15 minutes to complete the purchasing process.

Once payment has been made, the ticket is confirmed.

Tickets are linked to both the confirmed payment and the visitor’s identification, with the aim of ensuring an orderly and transparent process.

Tickets can be purchased for available dates through December 31, 2026.

In these cases, tickets are purchased in advance with payment confirmed.

The Ministry of Culture explained that, following the release of reservations that had remained blocked without confirmed payment, approximately 2,000 tickets are available for October, 21,000 for November, and 56,000 for December, subject to availability and user demand.

Currently, payment can be made using Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards, as well as through the Yape digital wallet.

A payment gateway fee of 2.83% applies to domestic transactions and 4.69% to international transactions.

The Ministry of Culture is working to incorporate other payment methods, including Diners, American Express, and the Pagalo.pe online platform, the latter subject to an agreement with the State-run Banco de la Nacion (Bank of the Nation).

To purchase tickets through the new direct sales mechanism, travelers must create an account either as an individual (visitor) or a legal entity (travel agency).

Additionally, travelers must have the visitors’ details to be registered on hand, as well as a debit or credit card to complete the online payment.

The Ministry of Culture specified that visitors can purchase tickets in person at Casa Garcilaso and the Cultural Center by paying in cash.

It also emphasized that in-person ticket sales remain available in Machu Picchu Pueblo, with 1,000 tickets available per day.

Regarding entry times, the TuBoleto.cultura.pe platform maintains the established visiting hours, depending on availability.

The different routes available for visits also remain unchanged. Availability may vary depending on the date and the conditions established for each route.

Daily visitor capacity remains unchanged

The Ministry of Culture clarified that the new entrance ticket sales mechanism does not modify the established visitor capacity for Machu Picchu or the Inca Road Network.

Visitor capacity at Machu Picchu remains at 5,600 visitors per day during the high season and 4,500 during the low season.

In the case of the Inca Road Network, capacity also remains unchanged at 750 visitors per day.

The high season at Machu Picchu runs from June 19 to November 2, as well as on January 1 and December 30–31, while the low or regular season runs from November 3 to June 18.

Other recommendations for enjoying your visit to Machu Picchu include:

Avoid carrying large backpacks

This is intended to keep the spaces clear and safe for all visitors, park rangers, and staff responsible for the care and preservation of the Inca citadel.

Avoid bringing food and beverages

This measure is intended to help preserve the natural environment around the Inca citadel and prevent the generation of solid, liquid, and organic waste that could affect the site's cleanliness and natural setting, Peru's main tourist attraction in Cusco.

Avoid making excessive noise

Visitors should avoid bringing musical instruments or sound-amplifying devices so that everyone can enjoy the tranquility and serenity of Machu Picchu.

Respect Machu Picchu's surroundings

Visitors should bear in mind that, given Machu Picchu's status as a Historic Sanctuary and Archaeological Park, its structures and surrounding environment need to be preserved.

Therefore, visitors are advised to avoid climbing on or touching the walls, as well as disturbing the flora and fauna of this natural area protected by the State.

Do not litter

It is essential to keep the archaeological site and its natural surroundings completely clean to ensure their preservation and contribute to their care for present and future generations who hope to visit and marvel at the Inca citadel.

By following these simple recommendations, visitors can experience Machu Picchu in a responsible and respectful manner.
