Peru to speed up measures to stimulate economic revival and covid-19 containment

15:46 | Lima, May. 22.

Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva on Friday announced that the list of economic activities permitted in Peru will be extended next week and that economic revival measures will be speeded up together with covid-19 containment efforts.

According to the economy sector's head, Peru has one of the most ambitious economic plans in the region and prepared its economic revival more than a month ago, in order to have a gradual impact on the pockets of individuals and companies.

Approved projects

"We have conducted an assessment of Phase 1, for example, some 40 mining projects have been approved, the Production Ministry has allowed access to 100% of the fishing quota, and the Housing Ministry has approved 200 real estate projects," she said.

Afterwards, the minister admitted that they were aware of the areas that needed to be improved and that phase 2 —that is about to begin— contains a component to increase the well-being of citizens, which is why activities such as technical and professional services for homes are being permitted.

Other activities include community services such as laundries, hairdressers, e-commerce, among others.

The other component of Phase 2 has to do with the simplification of all procedures defined in Phase 1 and will place emphasis on control and subsequent inspection.

Economic activities list to be expanded

Moreover, Alva reported that the list of economic activities allowed in Peru will be extended next week —after being assessed by the corresponding commission— and that a series of improvements will be added to simplify and speed up the economic revival.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the social isolation measure has been extended until June 30.

On this occasion, President Martin Vizcarra was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Friday marks the sixty-eighth day of mandatory social isolation.
