The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) announced that the goal for this year is to secure 16 new market access openings for Peruvian agricultural products, as part of the government's strategy to boost the agro-export sector.

"Peru has become an agricultural export powerhouse, and it is essential to continue creating greater commercial opportunities for the country's exportable supply," Minister Vladimir Cuno stated.

"In the first month of 2026, we have already secured market access for bananas to Argentina and honey to Paraguay," he added.

Over the past five years, Peru has secured market access for 114 agricultural products in various international markets, as a result of rigorous technical and sanitary negotiation processes.

These advances were reflected in the sustained growth of agricultural shipments, whose value exceeded US$13 billion as of November 2025.

"The government will continue to boost the growth of agricultural exports, not only through market openings, but also through the implementation of major irrigation projects, financing, and commercial coordination," Minister Cuno said.

To boost new sanitary and commercial market access, the country is carrying out coordinated efforts with the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and Foreign Affairs, as well as with officials from the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru).

Representatives from the Association of Agricultural Producer Guilds of Peru (AGAP), the Exporters Association (Adex), the Peruvian Poultry Association (APA), the Peruvian Pork Producers Association (Asoporci), and other strategic entities participated as well.

Agro-export powerhouse

To date, Peru's National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) is conducting advanced negotiations to secure market access for grapes to Chile and Egypt; Eureka lemons to New Zealand and Argentina; oranges to Chile; pitahaya to Bolivia and Argentina; aguaymanto to the United States; and fresh blueberries to Ecuador, New Zealand, and Japan.

In addition, negotiations are underway for pomegranates to Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, and South Korea; milled rice to Ecuador; mangoes to Malaysia; and cherries to China, as well as to improve export conditions for asparagus to the United States and the European Union.

Regarding livestock products, efforts are ongoing to secure market access for poultry meat to Paraguay; industrialized poultry meat to Singapore; industrialized pork to Singapore; equine semen; and pet food to Argentina.

While the target set for this year is 16 market access openings, Senasa's strategic work is expected to surpass this goal, further driving the agro-export sector, which in 2025 recorded sales exceeding US$15 billion.
