Peruvian Health Minister Victor Zamora on Friday inspected the construction of the new COVID-19 Care and Isolation Center in Lima's El Agustino district, which will feature 100 new hospital beds to expand the free-of-charge offer for patients with this disease, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reported.

The cost of installing this temporary mobile infrastructure —located in Hipolito Unanue Hospital's expansion area— is S/2.27 million (about US$663,354), and its implementation is run by the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Special Legacy Project.

"Right now, we are here at Hipolito Unanue Hospital, in its expansion area, where —in alliance with the Ministry of Transport and Communications— 100 hospital beds will be available within a week. They are part of the 5,000 that are under construction," he expressed.

In parallel, infrastructures are being built simultaneously in the Sergio Bernales Hospital area to enable 48 hospital beds.

Likewise, works are currently underway at Cayetano Heredia Hospital, where a room with 40 beds for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and other 62 beds will be implemented.

The Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Special Legacy Project also started the flattening of Cañete-based Lolo Fernandez Coliseum (located 1.8 kilometers from the hospital in that city), where 100 beds for COVID-19 patients will be installed.

Meanwhile, works at Huacho Regional Hospital —which will also have 100 beds— are expected to be supervised next week.
