Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon highlighted the speed with which the fuel supply issue for airplanes at the new Jorge Chavez International Airport —the new gateway to the Peruvian capital, Lima— was resolved, adding that service is returning to normal.

"The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) acted diligently as soon as the problem became known," Leon emphasized.

The Cabinet member highlighted that a solution was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning and that service is already returning to normal, as flight cancellations and delays were occurring, affecting users and tourists.

Technical solution

The sector's head underscored that a technical solution was found in support of the new airport terminal's operator.

"We must take into consideration that the operation of the new terminal at Jorge Chavez International Airport is managed by a concessionaire who must anticipate this type of situation," she remarked.

However, the government official said that in an emergency situation like the one that occurred, everyone must contribute.

"The MTC immediately coordinated with the involved parties to provide an effective solution," the minister stated.

"We are already addressing this today for the peace of mind of users and tourists," Leon added.

"The idea is for tourists to continue arriving in our country with the proper reassurance," she emphasized.

It is worth mentioning that the sector's head is participating in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) held in Paris, France.
