Peru seeks collaboration from international energy organizations to strengthen production

Peruvian Energy and Mines Minister Romulo Mucho, who is on an official visit to Japan, made a stopover in Paris and met with International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol, who recognized Peru's energy potential and offered the organization's willingness to collaborate with our country.

The Cabinet member welcomed the work of the IEA and recognized its extensive experience in the field, outlining the progress and challenges in Peru's energy and mining sector, including critical minerals.

In turn, Birol offered full support from this international organization's specialists to collaborate with their expertise in every energy production mode, aimed at addressing the South American country's challenges and interests.

MoU

During the gathering, both authorities agreed on the opportunity to evaluate a memorandum of understanding, with the aim of strengthening collaboration and the possibilities of Peruvian participation in IAE's works, including membership.

In that regard, they agreed to hold meetings at the technical team level so as to deepen dialogue and evaluate possible lines of joint work, including the elements for a draft memorandum of understanding.

Nuclear energy

Subsequently, Minister Mucho held a meeting with Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Director General William D. Magwood, who recognized Peru's experience in nuclear energy development for peaceful purposes.

At the gathering, Mucho commented on Peru's progress in this sphere, as well as the interest in learning about NEA's experience on "small" nuclear reactors for the generation of electric energy.

Motivated by a joint interest, both dignitaries agreed on the willingness and opportunity to deepen conversations so as to explore collaboration possibilities, taking into account our nation's challenges and interests.
