Peru salvages 1–1 draw against Russia

The Peruvian national team drew 1–1 with Russia In a friendly match at the impressive Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg on Wednesday.

The equalizer for the Red-White Team came in the 82nd minute thanks to a powerful long-range shot from Alex Valera outside the box, which the Russian goalkeeper failed to stop.

The match began with Peru showing initiative, surprising the home side with good combinations in the opening minutes.

The first clear chance came in the 15th minute, with a left-footed shot from Maxloren Castro that forced the Russian goalkeeper to make a save.

However, the advantage proved short-lived.

A mistake by goalkeeper Pedro Gallese while controlling a goal kick allowed Miranchuk to intercept and set up Aleksandr Golovin, who found himself alone in front of the goal to open the scoring for Russia in the 18th minute.

During the first half, Aleksey Miranchuk was the standout player, generating several chances for the hosts and showcasing his quality in the U.S. league.


The final push

In the second half, the Peruvian national team adjusted the tactics.

Kenji Cabrera replaced Martin Tavara to strengthen the attack.

Coach Manuel Barreto opted for an offensive trio of Yordy Reyna, Kevin Quevedo, and Alex Valera in an effort to turn the game around.

Although the Russians had moments of danger, Gallese managed to keep the situation under control.

Peru's effort paid off in the final minutes: from three-quarters of the field, Alex Valera unleashed a powerful left-footed strike that beat goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, sealing the 1–1 draw.
