Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ernesto Álvarez highlighted the transfer of high-risk inmates to penitentiary facilities in high-Andean regions, as part of a broader reorganization of the prison system.

The measure aims to bolster security, restore state authority, and combat organized crime, he noted via the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights’ account on X.

"Greater control and order in the country's prisons!" he emphasized.

Last Monday, the President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, announced that her administration would carry out a process to reorganize and reclassify the prison population nationwide, with the goal of strengthening control within the country's jails.

According to the President, the Ministry of Justice has been asked to provide a complete list of all inmates across all of Peru’s prisons, along with their respective classifications, in order to facilitate a nationwide reorganization of the inmate population.

The head of state made the announcement following an inspection of the "El Milagro" penitentiary in Trujillo, where a brawl between inmates had occurred.
