Tourist entry to the access route to Machu Picchu Mountain, which is part of the
Machu Picchu Archaeological Park located in Cusco region, will resume on Sunday, June 1, the Decentralized Culture Directorate in Cusco (DDC Cusco) announced.
Initially, the reopening of visits to this tourist area had been scheduled for today, Wednesday, May 28, but for safety reasons, DDC Cusco decided to postpone it.

This was stated in a press release, which specifies that due to the heavy rains affecting the region on March 8, 2025, a landslide occurred, causing rocks and trees to fall and damaging a section of the ascent route to Machu Picchu Mountain.
Therefore, access to Route 1-A: Machu Picchu Mountain Route was temporarily suspended.
The DDC recalled that, following damage and risk assessments as well as scheduled specialized work, the reopening of Route 1-A had been planned for May 28, 2025.
"However, technical work for rock removal and slope grooming has been prolonged due to the complexity of the intervention. The removal of a rock blockage at the top of the mountain and the reconstruction of an approximately six-meter section of the affected path is still pending," it emphasized.

"Regarding tickets already purchased, two options are offered: a refund of the entrance tickets or —as an exceptional and temporary measure— access to Route 2-A, following the procedures established by DDC Cusco," it added.
Machu Picchu Mountain
Known as the "Old Mountain," Machu Picchu is an imposing massif on whose slopes the Incas built the famous stone city, now considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The ascent path to the mountain's summit was built by the Incas and is wider and less steep than the route to the top of Huayna Picchu.
The hike to this place is only allowed for people over 18 years old. This has been the rule since June 1, 2024, when access to this impressive place was regulated.
It is not necessary to reach the summit to enjoy the landscape. Even halfway up, one can already take good photos of Machu Picchu.
There is no temple or Inca structure on Machu Picchu Mountain.
To access Machu Picchu Mountain, visitors must purchase the Machu Picchu + Mountain (Route 1A) ticket. This ticket grants entry through the main gate, taking a detour to the upper platforms before continuing along the path to the mountain's summit.

Route details
Entry: Access is through the main gate of Machu Picchu.
