The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announced that Peru has been recognized as the “World’s Best Niche Destination” by the renowned Chinese magazine Travelling Scope, one of the country’s most influential tourism publications, as part of its annual Star Awards 2025 competition.

The award was officially presented to Promperu’s Trade Office in Shanghai during a ceremony held last December.

It highlights Peru as a destination capable of offering unique, authentic, and culturally rich experiences, especially appreciated by discerning Chinese travelers interested in options that go beyond traditional tourist routes and incorporate exceptional natural landscapes, a direct connection to ancestral cultures, and internationally acclaimed cuisine.

“This award reinforces Peru’s position as a unique destination in the world, offering authentic, high-quality experiences aligned with the expectations of travelers who value cultural depth, our natural wealth, and gastronomy,” stated the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Teresa Mera.

A key reference point for tourism promotion

Travelling Scope is one of China's leading tourism media outlets, specializing in features, destination recommendations, and industry trend analysis. Its broad audience and influence make it a key reference point for tourism promotion in that market.

This recognition represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen Peru's position in the Chinese market, consolidating it as a high-value destination geared toward travelers who prioritize authenticity, cultural depth, and quality experiences.

Within this framework, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), through Promperu, continues to promote and position Peru in the Chinese market, highlighting its rich natural, cultural, and gastronomic tourism offerings to this strategic audience.

It is worth noting that China is the main source market for Asian tourists to Peru. Between January and November 2025, the country received 38,384 Chinese tourists, representing a 10.9% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
