Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea indicated that Peru reaffirms its solid commitment to the fight against transnational organized crime.

This announcement made was on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on Friday, following statements by Venezuela's Foreign Affairs Minister, Yvan Gil, who had said that "El Tren de Aragua" (The Aragua Train) criminal organization does not exist.

"Responding to unfounded statements about transnational organized crime is not worth it. Peru reaffirms its solid commitment to the fight against this scourge. The Resolute Action Plan of the Andean Community proves and confirms this (statement)," he stated.

Last January, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Security of the four Andean Community (CAN) countries approved a series of joint and urgent actions against transnational organized crime, which includes a Resolute Action Plan (PAR) that prioritizes different areas on the matter.

This Plan contains a total of 13 points, which address different matters related to the fight against transnational organized crime.

Among other points, proposing the establishment of an information exchange mechanism to create the Andean Database, which includes (information about) people with criminal records, court orders, or restriction on freedom of movement, whether national or foreign, in order to contribute to the security and internal order of CAN member countries.

It also includes planning with a view to carrying out, in the first quarter of 2024, a joint and coordinated operation against illegal mining, with emphasis on border areas, due to its connection with the financing of organized criminal groups.

Furthermore, it involves carrying out, in the shortest possible time, coordinated police and military operations in member countries' border areas, with the aim of confronting transnational crimes, as well as carrying out operational exercises related to the control of drug trafficking on the borders.
