Peru reaffirms commitment to integration with Pacific Alliance

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Friday reaffirmed the Peruvian State's commitment to continue participating actively in the Pacific Alliance —a bloc of countries that celebrates the first 10 years of integration today.

"We are all building the Pacific Alliance together, and Peru is an enthusiastic member committed to this integration adventure," he said during his participation in the virtual ceremony for the anniversary of this international conglomerate.

Within this framework, the Head of State highlighted his country's participation in said bloc also composed of Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.

"We are convinced that we can advance in the harmonized generation of high impact policies of regional interest," he expressed.

These include the strengthening of small businesses; the promotion of science, technology and innovation; the empowerment of women; and the implementation of a digital market, which allows such integration.

The top official believes that a roadmap must be in force to consolidate this important objective.

"It is important to consolidate the position of the Pacific Alliance as the main multidimensional integration platform in Latin America," Mr. Sagasti suggested.

"We have a prestige, image and credibility that, as a bloc, we must maintain," he added.

According to the statesman, the challenges facing this alliance go through the reactivation of the economy —especially for the sectors most disadvantaged and affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The top official also affirmed that this bloc should be projected towards the Asia-Pacific, an area that he considered "our main region of interest, without neglecting other regions and countries of the world traditionally associated with our nations."

On this occasion, the President was joined by Ministers Allan Wagner (Foreign Affairs) and Claudia Cornejo (Foreign Trade-Tourism).
