Peru Prosecutors to extend Odebrecht executive interrogation

11:27 | Lima, Dec. 10.

The Public Ministry and Odebrecht have signed a collaboration agreement enabling the company to provide more information to Peruvian Prosecutors' ongoing investigations on corruption cases involving the Brazilian construction corporation and Peruvian citizens, Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group Coordinator Rafael Vela has affirmed.

Within this framework, a team of Prosecutors will visit Brazil in order to extend the interrogation of Odebrecht's former top executive in Peru Jorge Barata.

"As a result of the signed accord, statements have been scheduled for January 14-18, including Jorge Barata's testimony. We will carry out over 20 proceedings in Brazil," Vela told Cuarto Poder TV show on Sunday night.

The Senior Prosecutor went on to add one of the commitments addresses the delivery of information from the company concerning bribe payments made to Peruvian officials

Likewise, it will enable the document delivery from My Web Day and Drousys servers used by the Division of Structured Operations —the Brazilian corporation's bribery department.

Furthermore, the agreement also includes an admission of guilt by Odebrecht and an obligation to pay civil reparations.

Odebrecht

As is known, the Brazilian construction giant admitted to having paid millions in bribes to government officials in Peru, in order to secure public-works contracts.

As a result, Odebrecht benefited from over US$143 million between 2005 and 2014 in Peru, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

In addition, four ex-Presidents have been linked to the Brazilian company such as: Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), Alan Garcia (2006-2011), Ollanta Humala (2011-2016), and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018)

Former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori —currently under preventive detention— also allegedly received money from Odebrecht for her 2011 campaign.
