The Executive Branch seeks to hold a meeting with ministers of Interior, Defense, and Foreign Affairs from countries across the region, in order to address "urgent measures" to deal with situations such as the one in Ecuador, Prime Minister Alberto Otarola affirmed on Thursday.

"We have been working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on scheduling an urgent meeting," the Executive Branch's representative said in statements to the press.

The Cabinet chief also noted that it is imperative to coordinate actions to prevent security (breaches)," especially those concerning intelligence, which we must share among our countries."

Therefore, the proposal is to issue such a call "to address urgent measures together with the countries in the region."

Likewise, Otarola affirmed that he will meet with Ministers Victor Torres (Interior) and Jorge Chavez (Defense) to compile the information they received in Tumbes, where they traveled to monitor the enhancement of surveillance in the border region.

Commented measures

The Prime Minister stated that declaring a state of emergency in the districts located in the border area will result in an effective migration control and will allow the Armed Forces to carry out border security tasks.

"Without a doubt, we will combat all organized mafias" that attempt to enter the country, he said.

Regarding the Ecuadorian Government's decision to return prisoners to their countries of origin, the Cabinet chief underscored that said statement is being reviewed in order to determine the possible implications of its implementation.

Otarola's statements were delivered at a press conference after his participation in the forum "Chancay-Callao Port Hub 2024."

In this regard, he stressed that the Government will modernize the Port of Callao, while implementing the Chancay Megaport.

This implies fostering the Peruvian naval industry, represented by the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA), so that said company "can compete and provide services around the world," he pointed out.
