The Peruvian government, through the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), is promoting an ambitious trade opening agenda, which will allow the entry of Peruvian agricultural products into 16 new international markets between October 2025 and June 2026.
In this way, it consolidates the sustained growth of agricultural exports and Peru's position as an agri-food powerhouse.
As part of this effort, the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) plans to finalize various phytosanitary accesses, including: fresh pomegranates and bananas to China; fresh avocados to the Philippines; blueberries to the Dominican Republic; bananas to Argentina; onions to Ecuador; poultry meat to China; and pork to Indonesia.
Peru is one of the top ten food suppliers in the world, with annual food sales exceeding US$12 billion last year.
Peru also stands out as one of the world's leading producers and exporters of grapes, blueberries, avocados, mangoes, bananas, coffee, among others.
Social and economic impact
These efforts represent a decisive step in consolidating Peru as a leading regional agricultural exporter, generating more employment, higher incomes for small producers, and increasing foreign currency for the national economy.
They also contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector, strengthening competitiveness and opening new opportunities for thousands of rural families.
"Peruvian agricultural exports continue to consolidate themselves as an engine of development for the country. At the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (Senasa), we continue working to ensure that more Peruvian products reach new markets, bringing with them the efforts, quality, and identity of our farmers," emphasized the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (Senasa).
In this way, small-scale family farming is being energized, promoting their participation in more competitive production chains and their entry into international markets.
Bilateral meetings
As part of the strategy to open new markets, Senasa Peru and the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) of the Philippines held a bilateral technical meeting this week to establish phytosanitary requirements and coordinate the Work Plan that will allow the export of fresh Peruvian avocados to that country of more than 110 million inhabitants.
In parallel, details are being coordinated for a technical visit by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), with the aim of strengthening international cooperation and advancing the opening of new agricultural products in both markets.
With these actions, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Livestock reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening agricultural health, promoting the competitiveness of Peruvian agriculture, and expanding export opportunities that contribute to the country's sustainable development.
