National copper production reached 240,097 fine metric tons (FMT) in October 2023, a 1.9% rise over the same month of the previous year (235,725 FMT), thanks to the good productive performance by Antapaccay Mining Company, Hudbay Peru, and Southern Peru Copper Corporation.
This was stated by the
Energy and Mines Ministry's Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM),
which also underscores the accumulated production of the red metal as of October, registering a growth of 14.3% compared to the same period in 2022.
At the level of mining owners, Cerro Verde Mining Society holds the first place as copper producer, followed by Antamina Mining Company and Southern Peru Copper.
At the regional level, Arequipa remains in first place (17.8%), followed by Moquegua and Ancash, with 16.7% and 15.8%, respectively.
The document also highlights the growth in the production of other main metals, such as gold, zinc, silver, lead, and tin, which experienced significant increases corresponding to the same month of the previous year.
Regarding gold, its production grew by 10% compared to October 2022. Similarly, it registered an increase of 1.3% in accumulated production as of October 2023 due to greater production of Boroo Misquichilca, Veta Dorada, Yanacocha Mining Company, and Horizonte Mining Consortium.
Meanwhile, zinc registered a 10.4% increase compared to October 2022. Its accumulated production from January to October rose by 6.3% compared to the same period in 2022 due to production levels at Shouxin Peru and Volcano Mining Company.
Lead reported a 10% growth compared to 2022. Its accumulated production at the end of October 2023 recorded a positive variation of 6.1% over the accumulated value in the period from January to October 2022.
Regarding silver, an increase of 4.2% was registered compared to October 2022.
Lastly, the accumulated production of iron, from January to October 2023, reached a positive variation of 13.9% compared to the accumulated production in the same period of 2022, while molybdenum experienced a growth of 4.7% in accumulated production from January to October 2023.
