Peru: President welcomes Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine batch

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday afternoon received a new batch of vaccines against COVID-19 from the Chinese laboratory Sinopharm.

It consists of 2,862,500 doses, with which the Peruvian population will continue to be immunized against the pandemic, the President's Office reported.

The cargo arrived at Jorge Chavez International Airport via Air France. This event was witnessed by the Head of State and Health Minister Hernando Cevallos.


According to the diplomat, the Health Ministry signed contracts for 95,731,400 doses of vaccines with various laboratories and the COVAX Facility mechanism.

With China's Sinopharm laboratory, five contracts were signed for 16,000,000 doses. The latter was inked on July 26 for 10,000,000 doses.
