Deliveries of COVID-19 vaccines to Peru continue to ramp up, with more than 12 million doses expected to arrive in the month of September alone, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua.

As Maurtua addressed the Congress' Foreign Affairs Commission, he explained that the vaccines acquired by Peru have arrived steadily and that deliveries have seen a sustained increase.

"More than 12 million doses (...) are expected to arrive in September, which will set a new record in the arrival of vaccines in Peru," the high-ranking official stated.

He went on to say that 508,800 AstraZeneca vaccines will land in the country through the COVAX Facility today. Another 3 million Sinopharm doses are scheduled to land on September 9, and a second batch of 4 million Sinopharm doses will arrive between September 12 and 13.

In the case of Pfizer, 748,812 doses will arrive this week, 748,000 during the week of September 13, 650,520 in the week of September 20, and 650,000 during the week of September 27.

According to the diplomat, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has signed contracts for 95,731,400 doses from various laboratories and the COVAX Facility.

The country has signed an agreement with Pfizer for the supply of 32,522,600 doses, of which more than 11 million have already been delivered.

In the case of Sinopharm, Peru has signed five agreements for 16 million doses, the last one —for 10 million doses— on July 26, of which 1 million jabs have landed in the country.

Meanwhile, the AstraZeneca agreement covers 14,040,000 doses, and the first shipment is scheduled to arrive by the end of this month.
