urged Congress to promptly review the legislative powers request submitted recently by the Executive Branch, with the aim of enabling the government to continue firmly combating crime.
"We have formally submitted the request for powers to the Congress of the Republic. I ask that, within the parliamentary deadlines, this matter be reviewed promptly so that the tools we are requesting can complement the actions we have been implementing as a government through the state of emergency," Jeri said in remarks to local media following an operation in Lima's Ate district.
According to the Head of State, Congress has consistently shown commitment to working in favor of citizen security. Thus, he called for continued coordinated efforts between both branches of government.
On another note, regarding the request to extend the validity of the Comprehensive Mining Formalization Registry (Reinfo), President Jeri clarified that the government will announce its stance on the matter in the coming days, prior to a Congress' plenary session.
"The decisive stance of the Executive Branch must be provided by the Energy and Mines sector. When the Reinfo issue is considered in the plenary, that is when the Executive will intervene and issue a proposal within the corresponding procedures," he pointed out.
Operation against the "Clan del Norte"
The President led an operation in Ate district alongside the Peruvian National Police (PNP) against members of the "Clan del Norte, New Generation" (Northern Clan, New Generation) resulting in the capture of seven Venezuelan nationals who are allegedly involved in extortion.
The PNP seized firearms, explosives, drugs, drones, and evidence of extortion following intensive intelligence work.
The Head of State highlighted the discovery of notebooks containing information on potential victims, as well as the gang's link to an attack targeting a businessman in Los Olivos district, also in Lima.
"They have tools, pistols, revolvers, rifles, and drones. Unfortunately, crime is constantly evolving, and we as the State must also respond in real time, adjusting and modifying our strategies to be up to the task in this fight," Jeri emphasized.
Subsequently, the President headed to downtown Lima to assess the actions being carried out by the Forward Command Post located at Plaza Gastañeta.
The top official was able to observe the ongoing joint efforts between the PNP and the Armed Forces throughout the state of emergency in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region.
