The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday reaffirmed the Government's commitment to working hand-in-hand with the Judiciary so as to ensure equitable access to justice and uphold respect for cultural diversity.

At this event, the Head of State pointed out that progress in this regard was made in 2024 thanks to the Public Defense of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Minjusdh).

Within this framework, the top official indicated that said entity managed to serve nearly 1.3 million low-income people nationwide in 2024, which represented an increase of more than 135,000 beneficiaries compared to the previous year.

Mrs. Boluarte added that more than 25,000 of these services were provided in indigenous languages, such as Quechua, Shipibo-Konibo, and Asháninka, thanks to the adaptation of the Free Legal Assistance (Alegra) centers in various Peruvian regions.

"Our commitment does not stop here. This government, our government, is determined to work hand-in-hand with the judiciary to ensure inclusive justice that respects cultural diversity and promotes equal access to judicial services across the national territory," she expressed.

Likewise, the President reaffirmed the Executive Branch's commitment to working in coordination with the Judiciary for the implementation of reforms that modernize and optimize judicial services, noting that technology is key to reducing barriers that hinder access to justice, and to ensuring more agile and efficient processes.

"Our government has a clear and unwavering commitment: to bring justice to all Peruvians, especially those who are part of the most vulnerable sectors of our society; therefore, in this coordinated work with the Judiciary, we will continue to advance in development and in the search for that justice that the Peruvian people so yearn for," Mrs. Boluarte underlined.

Furthermore, the Head of State welcomed the appointment of Janet Tello Gilardi as the new Judiciary Chair and stressed that her appointment reaffirms the progress of our society towards greater gender equality, as more women hold relevant positions in different Peruvian institutions nowadays.

The top official also pointed out that the Judiciary is autonomous in its functional, political, administrative, economic, and disciplinary exercise, as stipulated in the Political Constitution, emphasizing that such autonomy is essential to preserve impartiality and independence in the administration of justice.
