The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday reaffirmed her commitment to building a diverse and multicultural country, where indigenous women decide on their way of living, as well as their social, political, economic, and cultural organization.

"The leadership and recognition of the rights of indigenous women are in clear progress, and there will be no setbacks; on the contrary, we are moving forward as united women," she expressed during the event.

The Head of State called for strengthening democratic spaces, where indigenous women live and work in conditions of equality, dignity, and respect.

"It constitutes a firm commitment and deep conviction of our Government to recognize and guarantee the identity and rights of indigenous peoples. Consequently, (we must) value and promote the leadership of their women," she emphasized.

Within this framework, Mrs. Boluarte congratulated the fact that more and more women are leading indigenous communities, unlike previous years.

This leadership —she underscored— is a responsibility and the opportunity to serve others and not oneself.

Native languages

The president reported that her administration works to preserve native languages.

In this regard, she deemed the course for indigenous or native language interpreters and translators as a milestone.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte announced that the 2024 educational material for bilingual intercultural education in 16 native languages will be enhanced, which will benefit more than 419,000 students.

The top official also indicated that the path to close social gaps will be complex and difficult, since the monster of underdevelopment, exclusion, and poverty is being fought.
