on Thursday participated in the swearing-in ceremony of new National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Roberto Burneo Bermejo.
On October 24, the Supreme Court of the Judiciary elected Supreme Judge Roberto Burneo Bermejo as JNE Chairman for the 2024-2028 term, succeeding Jorge Salas Arenas, whose term had ended.
A law graduate from the University of Piura, Burneo Bermejo holds a PhD in Administrative Law from the University of La Coruña, Spain, as well as master's degrees in Business Law from UPC and in Public Management from the University of San Martín de Porres in Lima.
In his first remarks to the press after his election, Burneo Bermejo said he assumes the role with responsibility and the great challenge of ensuring transparency, impartiality, and independence in the management of this institution.
"Rest assured that I will dedicate all my experience, knowledge, and effort to ensure that the entire institution serves the citizenry, democracy, and the rule of law," he expressed.
The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by Ombudsman Josue Gutierrez, National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Chief Piero Corvetto, Supreme Court judges, among other authorities.
It took place at the Judiciary headquarters in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
