Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Monday evening inaugurated the final stage of the 2019 National School Sports Games in Lima.

Within this framework, the Head of State underlined that the competition for the first time includes the practice of Para sports in three disciplines: swimming, volleyball, and athletics.

"That is very important because we have started to integrate all Peruvians," he stated in this sense.

The President noted that the students —who reached the final stage— had gone a long way which had begun last May with the participation of 800,000 competitors from 20,000 schools.

"2,600 schoolchildren from all over the country have arrived here, to whom we wish the best success," he said.

Likewise, the top official expressed his wish for the national school games to be invigorated every year, following the example set by the Peruvian medalists at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and Parapan American Games.

He also mentioned that the school sports competition will be hosted by the same infrastructure as were the Pan American Games and stressed that the effort made by the Peruvian Government is for the benefit of youth and all citizens.

"Success to all, may the best win and those who fail to win continue to show the same competitive effort in order to continue improving. With these words I declare the final stage of the 2019 National School Sports Games inaugurated," he concluded.

The Head of State was joined by Ministers Flor Pablo (Education), Edgar Vasquez (Foreign Trade-Tourism), Gloria Montenegro (Women-Vulnerable Populations), and Jorge Moscoso (Defense); Lima Mayor Jorge Muñoz; as well as Lima 2019 Organizing Committee (COPAL) Chairman Carlos Neuhaus; among others.

The event was held at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum in Miraflores district.
