The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo met with Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan at the Government Palace in Lima on Tuesday.

This meeting was intended to intensify technical cooperation activities which contribute to Peru's economic reactivation, as well as to promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

The event also saw the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa; General Director for Economic Affairs, Ambassador Maria Eugenia Echeverria; Permanent Representative of Peru at International Organizations based in Geneva, Ambassador Luis Juan Chuquihuara; and Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System Igor Garafulic.

Afterwards, the UN official led the presentation titled "The impact of global economic crisis in developing countries and possible repercussions in Peru."

Last Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Landa and UNCTAD Secretary-General Grynspan signed a letter of intent in a ceremony held at the Lima-based Torre Tagle Palace —the Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters.

Said document is intended to promote cooperation opportunities, as well as implement specialized projects and capacity development programs in various areas of economic and social activity in Peru.

Minister Landa highlighted the relevance of promoting key areas, such as internationalization of MSMEs, digital economy, sustainable management of marine resources for the benefit of vulnerable populations, and economic empowerment of women, among others.

Both authorities also agreed on the importance for Peru —particularly within the framework of post-pandemic economic recovery— to continue strengthening cooperation ties with the aim of contributing to the achievement of sustainable and inclusive development —for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations.
