The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, arrived in Peru’s northern Tumbes region on Thursday to oversee river-cleaning efforts aimed at preventing possible damage from El Niño phenomenon.
The Head of State was accompanied by Minister Marco Vinelli (Agrarian Development and Irrigation) and Luis Dyer (Health).
Upon arrival, the top official was received with honors by regional and provincial authorities.
It is worth recalling that Minister Vinelli also heads the National El Niño Phenomenon Risk Management Commission.
The first place visited by the President was Jose Lishner Tudela Educational Institution No. 001, where she participated in a dengue vaccination campaign.
Speaking to the children at the school, the Head of State noted that vaccination is important in view of the heavy rains brought by El Niño.
Moreover, the top official said vaccination consists of two doses and will be administered to children aged 10 and people up to 20 years old.
