The PrPresident of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, was on Tuesday recognized as Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police.

At the official ceremony held this afternoon at the Government Palace Courtyard of Honor, the Head of State underscored the role of both institutions.

The top official described them as guarantors of order, legality, and national sovereignty in Peru.

"Exercising the presidency of the republic not only entails politically leading the country, but also, by constitutional mandate, entails heading the institutions responsible for defending our sovereignty, preserving internal order, and guaranteeing the rule of law," Balcazar said.

The President delivered these remarks before Cabinet members, senior military and police commanders, as well as other members of the armed institutions present at this ceremony.

The top official said he received the recognition of the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police with great humility and full awareness of its significance.

"Our Armed Forces and our National Police have always been the fundamental pillars of the Republic and the guarantee that Peru remains free, united, and at peace," Balcazar stated.

"That is why we have the responsibility to support them, strengthen them, and demand that they act with discipline," he underscored.

Transparent elections

During his speech, the President of the Republic stated that his government is working to provide stability to the country, given that security and the economy are deeply interconnected.

The Head of State noted that there can be no sustained growth where fear prevails.

"In addition to confronting crime, we are working to boost the dynamism of the Peruvian economy, continue building confidence, attract more investment, and protect the jobs of millions of compatriots," he asserted.

Furthermore, the top official stated that another key priority of his administration is to guarantee a clean, transparent, and legitimate electoral process.

"I have the duty to ensure that our institutions continue to grow stronger in order to safeguard the constitutional framework and its protections, because there is no democracy that can endure without institutions such as the Armed Forces," he emphasized.

Likewise, the President indicated that they are working tirelessly to leave an orderly country in the few months of the mandate granted to the government.

He also reiterated his commitment to leaving a more stable and more secure nation.

"That is the commitment I renew today on behalf of my Council of Ministers, and I can assure our Armed Forces and the entire country that it will be fulfilled," he concluded.
