on Wednesday announced the upcoming approval of "Services for Taxes" as part of Government measures to strengthen the country's preparedness for the El Niño phenomenon.
"An extremely important tool is being approved today that will help speed up this work: Services for Taxes. Through this tool, we will be able to work much faster with the call for private-sector participation," she stated.
In this regard, the Head of State explained that "Services for Taxes" will help speed up major projects in response to El Niño phenomenon by promoting private-sector participation.
Likewise, the top official indicated that the Government is working on additional supplementary credits aimed at preparedness for the El Niño phenomenon and restoring order.
"Supplementary credits will be announced in the coming weeks precisely to provide additional funding at the national level, where we still face many challenges," Fujimori pointed out.
The announcements were made during a working visit to Piura, as part of the President’s tenth working trip and her second visit to this northern region.
The Head of State was accompanied by Ministers Marco Vinelli (Agrarian Development and Irrigation), Rafael Belaunde (Defense), and Mauricio Arnillas (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation).
Emergency preparedness
As part of this working visit, the President led the handover of more than 20 water pumps to provincial and district municipalities in Piura, with the aim of strengthening local governments' response capacity in the event of eventual heavy rains and flooding.
The Head of State stressed the importance of municipalities, the Regional Government, and all authorities being prepared in the event of an emergency.
"As I said at the beginning of my term in office, we would have liked previous governments to have also taken measures. However, we are not here to make excuses, but to move forward much faster,” Fujimori said.
“It is essential that these deliveries be made starting now because, when the time comes, we do not know when or at what time these disasters could occur," she added.
In this regard, the Housing Minister explained that the equipment is distributed according to municipalities' requests and the prioritization of areas that require greater response capacity.
Each water pump comes with 500 meters of hose and can extend its reach by adding additional sections.
During the working visit, more than 20 water pumps were handed over to each provincial and municipal authority: 4 to the Piura Province Municipality; 2 to the Sullana Province Municipality of Sullana; 4 to the Morropon-Chulucanas Province Municipality; 3 to the Castilla District Municipality; 3 to the Veintiseis de Octubre District Municipality; 3 to the Catacaos District Municipality; and 4 to the Cura Mori District Municipality.
Likewise, the Housing Minister reported that water pumps had previously been delivered to Tumbes, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Lima, and Ica regions.
In Piura, previous deliveries included 3 water pumps for Mancora; 2 for Los Organos; 3 for Tambogrande; 2 for Veintiseis de Octubre; and 2 for Castilla.
Within this framework, Piura Province Mayor Juan Francisco Cevallos highlighted that this equipment will help improve the municipality's immediate response capacity in the event of rainfall.
Similarly, he welcomed the President's presence in the region.
"Her presence allows us to strengthen the work being carried out to desilt various sections, but above all, it is a source of encouragement and hope for a region that will face a very challenging situation in a few months," he expressed.
Unblocking water projects
During her remarks, the President also reported that the Housing sector has 252 stalled water projects nationwide, 11 of which have already been unblocked during the first weeks of her administration.
"I can say here to the mayor, the governor, and all residents that in the coming days, the five stalled projects will be unblocked to benefit all citizens of Piura," she announced.
The Head of State emphasized that her Government seeks to speed up the implementation of pending projects and restore the Peruvian State's capacity to address the population's needs.
"We are not here to make excuses, but to move forward much faster," Fujimori emphasized.
Earlier, the President oversaw desilting work being carried out on Piura River.
During the tour, she observed the deployment of machinery and the work aimed at reducing the risk of flooding in the Los Ejidos Dam-Bolognesi Bridge and Simbila-Grau Bridge sections.
"There are 43 machines working around the clock. Of the 500,000 metric tons that need to be removed to safeguard the city of Piura, 30% has been removed so far. This is progress," Fujimori reported.
The top official said coordination is underway to incorporate additional machinery available from the Regional Government.
Moreover, she highlighted the participation of the private sector, which has been contributing resources to maintain operations.
In this regard, Piura Region Governor Luis Neyra underscored the Government's push to advance projects that had remained pending and thanked the President for visiting the region.
"Madam President, on behalf of the entire Piura region, I thank you for your concern, as your father did at one point in 1998. We are very grateful for the affection you have for this region. We sincerely thank you and the entire Fujimori family, as we did your father, for your presence, and we hope that we can continue working together," he expressed.
