Peru: Presidency reaffirms commitment to bringing State services to indigenous women

On International Indigenous Women's Day, the Peruvian government reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to bring State services closer to native women.

Likewise, it recognized their contribution to the building of our nation, their role as pillars of their communities, as well as their efforts to preserve and defend their peoples' identity.


Today, September 5, International Indigenous Women's Day is celebrated to recognize and promote the effective participation and contribution of native women to the development of their communities.

The Presidency of the Republic emphasized that 3 million Peruvian women self-identify as belonging to one of the 55 indigenous or native peoples, according to the INEI.

Similarly, the Head of State noted that more than 900,000 indigenous women are part of the social programs of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis).

On this occasion, the Ministry of Culture also recognized the leadership and legacy of more than 3 million indigenous or native women in Peru who, with their knowledge and values, are building the country's future.


In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) highlighted that indigenous women are the guardians of their communities' traditions, nature, and cultural identity. Therefore, it honors their strength, wisdom, and legacy that inspire the world.


Lastly, the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations recognized the strength, voice, and rights of indigenous and native women.

It also highlighted their invaluable contribution to building a more inclusive and just Peru.
