On National Defense Day, the Presidency of the Republic commemorates the reincorporation of Tacna into Peruvian territory and pays tribute to our Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police.

The Government highlights the tireless work of our law enforcement forces in protecting national sovereignty, combating crime, and responding to emergencies, which makes it possible to work toward a better future for all Peruvians.

Every August 27, our country commemorates National Defense Day, a civic occasion established on January 20, 1989, by Law No. 25005, in tribute to the reincorporation of Tacna into the national territory.

On this day, Peruvians recall the courage of our Armed Forces and citizens when the Nation’s sovereignty and peace are at stake.

The memory of the heroic citizens of Tacna, who with faith and patriotism remained steadfast in their determination to live under our flag, led to the establishment of National Defense Day as a well-deserved tribute.
