Peru: Pisco exports gain ground in new markets

13:20 | Lima, Jul. 21.

The Exporters Association (Adex) reported on Tuesday that the United States remained the main destination market for shipments of Pisco, Peru's flagship drink, accounting for 31% of total exports between January and May 2026.

Spain followed with a 16% share, while the Netherlands accounted for 15%.

Together, these three markets accounted for 62% of total Pisco exports, the business association said.

However, it highlighted growth opportunities during this period in markets such as Germany, Canada, China, and Brazil, where growing interest in Peru's flagship spirit has been observed.

Favorable outlook

Adex Chairman Cesar Tello said that although Pisco exports declined 24% between January and May this year, the drop was due to the postponement of some shipments as a result of higher ocean freight costs and weaker international demand.

"We are confident this situation will be temporary and that we will see a recovery in the second half of this year that will allow us to end the year on a positive note," Tello noted.

Therefore, he expressed confidence that Pisco exports will post positive results by the end of 2026.

Tello made these remarks during a ceremony organized by the business association to mark National Pisco Day, which is observed every fourth Sunday of July.

According to Adex, Peruvian Pisco exports totaled US$3.1 million between January and May this year.

International potential

The chairman highlighted that Pisco embodies Peru's history, culture, and tradition.

He noted that its international positioning is the result of the joint efforts of producers, exporters, and organizations involved in trade promotion.

"The challenge is not only to export more, but also to establish Pisco as a premium product distinguished by its quality, origin, and history," Tello emphasized.

"It has distinctive attributes (...) "It is recognized for its quality and can continue winning over new consumers," he added.

"Market diversification, international promotion, and strengthening the production chain will be key to expanding its global presence," Tello pointed out.
