The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) lamented the passing of Peruvian Air Force (FAP) Second Lieutenant Ashley Vargas, whose remains were found in Pisco province, Ica region, on Thursday afternoon.

The message was issued by the PCM on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

"At the PCM, we lament the passing of FAP Second Lieutenant Ashley Vargas and extend our condolences to her family, loved ones, and colleagues," reads the post.

As is known, the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) announced that the remains of Second Lieutenant Ashley Stacy Vargas Mendoza were found on the seabed off the coast of Pisco, in Ica region, after 17 days of intense search and rescue efforts.

The young woman, born in Amazonas region, went missing on May 20 while carrying out her final mission as part of the basic flight instruction program, aboard KT-1P aircraft No. 446 in Pisco.

That same day, the National Aeronautical Search and Rescue Plan (SAR) was activated, led by the FAP. Support was requested from other public and private sector institutions to carry out a multidisciplinary effort that ultimately led to the recovery of the young woman's remains, the statement said.

The site was located thanks to the joint efforts of specialized units, including hydrographic vessels, maritime patrol boats, and divers from the Peruvian Navy's rescue group, who used their equipment and technology to conduct a thorough sweep of the seabed.
