20:04 | Ciudad del Este (Paraguay), Sep. 7.
Peru and Paraguay tied 0-0 on Thursday evening in their opening match of the CONMEBOL
FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
In the first half, the Incas had a scoring opportunity in the 3rd minute, but the attempt did not find the net.
However, in the following minutes, the red-white squad had to deal with the attack of the Paraguayans, which sought to take advantage of their position as hosts.
Peru's goalkeeper Pedro Gallese had various important interventions and managed to save the net from various shots.
In the 44th minute, Peruvian Luis Advincula was sent off as the referee gave him a second yellow card for a foul on Paraguayan Ramon Sosa.
Thus, the first half of the game ended without goals.
In the second half, the clearest chance for the Paraguayan side came in the 66th minute. Miguel Almiron (Paraguay) managed to enter the Peruvian area, but once again, the shot was saved by Gallese.
Thus, the Incas —under the command of their
coach Juan Reynoso— begin their road to the 2026 World Cup with a 0-0 draw against Paraguay.
The match took place at Antonio Aranda Stadium in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay.
With this tie, Peru has earned its first point in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
A few days later —on September 12— the national soccer team will face Brazil in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
