Peruvian Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra on Friday reported that 138,882 citizens have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 with a first dose from the batch sent by the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm.

At a press conference, the high-ranking official stressed that these are health professionals, including healthcare personnel from the National Police and the Armed Forces.

Concerning the provision of medical oxygen, the minister recalled that the registry of industrial oxygen producers and suppliers was created two days ago, in order to rely on updated information on the companies that can collaborate in the production of the medical input.

According to Neyra, there is an important group of private companies that are making donations. They are basically linked to the mining, oil, and steel industries, which are joining efforts to ensure supply.

In addition to this, the government official mentioned that the arrival of the first 20 tons of medical oxygen from Chile could take place this weekend.

Regarding compliance with the measures to avoid further COVID-19 contagion, the Cabinet member thanked the citizens who abide by them.

However, there is still a significant number of people who do not comply with the restrictions, he said.
