Peru: New EsSalud delegation heads to Cusco to strengthen fight against COVID-19

14:01 | Cusco (Cusco region), Aug. 10.

A new brigade from the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) —made up of 50 health professionals— left for Cusco to join the fight against COVID-19 in this southern region in Peru.

It must be noted that Cusco is one of the hardest-hit regions in the country because of the coronavirus pandemic and, therefore, it is under mandatory localized quarantine.

Composed of 23 doctors, 25 nurses and 2 field technicians, the delegation brings 3 tons of medicines, medical supplies and protective personal equipment (PPE).

It must be noted that 34 tons of aid have been delivered to the area so far this year.

Moreover, 60 oxygen cylinders were brought for Moquegua region.

Jorge Perlacios —a spokesperson for EsSalud— reported that the Hospital Peru mission is intended to join the front line of the battle and contribute to the recovery of the affected population.

These brave professionals are part of the staff —of over 13,000— hired by EsSalud so as to strengthen health care services in the most affected areas during the health emergency.

"They are dedicated and optimistic Peruvians who maintain a generous and supportive attitude when it comes to helping and moving where they are most needed," Perlacios stated.

"EsSalud stands firm in the belief that the country should continue to provide specialized and quality care," he added.
