The National Elections Board (JNE) on Friday strongly condemned the incidents that occurred outside the residence of its chairman, Roberto Burneo.

It called on political organizations and the citizenry to act with responsibility and respect, helping preserve social peace.

The following is the statement issued by the electoral body:

- The National Elections Board (JNE) strongly condemns the incidents that occurred outside the residence of its chairman, as well as any form of harassment or intimidation against its authorities.

Such conduct is unacceptable in a rule-of-law system and constitutes an attempt at undue pressure that undermines democratic institutions.

- The right to protest is legitimate; however, it does not protect acts of intimidation or threats.

Any action intended to coerce decisions or affect the independence of the jurisdictional function will be firmly rejected and reported to the competent authorities for the appropriate action.

- The JNE acts with full autonomy and independence, in accordance with the Constitution and the law.

Its decisions are made exclusively on the basis of technical and legal criteria, within the framework of the stages of the electoral process.

- We call on political organizations and the citizenry to act with responsibility and respect, contributing to the preservation of social peace.
