Peru has been recognized as
Inclusive International Destination at the 2025 International Tourism Fair (FITUR), held from January 22 to 26 in Madrid, Spain. The announcement was made by the South American country's
Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon.
"We have been awarded by FITUR as the Best Inclusive Destination, and we are proud of this recognition as it shows how we are taking our tourism to new international levels," Leon said during an interview with RPP on Wednesday.
"Being named as an inclusive tourism destination is a recognition that highlights our commitment to accessible and sustainable tourism. Peru is a tourist destination that includes both culture and nature, meaning our commitment to sustainability, as well as to the preservation of cultural heritage and natural landscapes is paramount," she added.
Recognized for Accessibility
FITUR 2025 honored Peru for its comprehensive and sustainable approach to accessible tourism.
Key factors in securing this award included the creation of an access guide, adherence to international standards, and efforts to integrate accessibility criteria into the country's top tourist destinations, making Peru a global model for other nations.
"We have tourist destinations in the country that allow visitors with special abilities to explore these spaces. For example, we recently completed a project in the Chan Chan citadel (La Libertad region) that enables visitors with special abilities or those who need to use a wheelchair to do so without difficulties," Leon mentioned.
Strengthening Peru's Tourism Leadership
The Cabinet member emphasized that
FITUR 2025 in Spain is a critical platform for solidifying Peru as a leading regional tourism destination and a reliable partner for tourism-related business ventures.
"FITUR is one of the most significant global events in the sector, bringing together over 8,000 companies and professionals from more than 100 countries. It is an ideal platform to strengthen commercial alliances and showcase our tourism offerings," León explained.
"This year, Peru's delegation at FITUR includes over 30 exhibitors, ranging from tour operators and representatives of Peruvian gastronomy to hotel and cultural industry stakeholders. In this fair, we can highlight key initiatives that set us apart, such as our inclusive tourist destinations," she added.
