Peru has become one of the leading destinations for foreign tourists thanks to its ancient culture, gastronomy, and archaeological heritage, among other attractions.

According to the National Superintendence of Migrations, migration flows among these travelers increased by more than 5% between 2024 and 2025.

Inbound and outbound migration movements totaled 4,594,280 in 2024, rising to 4,839,394 in 2025.

The new Jorge Chavez International Airport—the main gateway to Lima—was inaugurated on June 1 last year.

The National Superintendence of Migrations implemented additional immigration control booths and state-of-the-art technology, including Migracheck and e-gates, to meet demand.

Most foreign travelers entering the country through Jorge Chavez International Airport were U.S. citizens (24.53%), followed by Chileans (8.88%), Brazilians (7.62%), Colombians (7.21%), Spaniards (5.99%), Argentines (4.89%), Mexicans (4.42%), and Canadians (2.96%), among others.

Visits by foreign nationals to Peru had a significant economic impact, generating direct and indirect employment not only in the hotel sector but also in other areas such as gastronomy, tourism, and transportation.

Where do Peruvians travel?

Outbound travel by Peruvians increased 5.1%.

In 2024, departures through the country's main airport totaled 2,115,084, rising to 2,222,779 in 2025.

Peruvian citizens traveling abroad mainly headed to the United States (17.73%), Colombia (14.29%), Spain (13.47%), Chile (13.17%), Panama (7.83%), Argentina (7.17%), Brazil (6.92%), the Dominican Republic (4.67%), and Mexico (3.13%), among others.

The National Superintendence of Migrations records only the initial destination of Peruvians leaving the country, as many of the listed locations serve as air transit hubs for onward travel to other nations.
