was elected to assume the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Regional Climate Change Platform of Economy and Finance Ministries of Latin America and the Caribbean for 2026–2027.
The election was carried out by the platform's member countries.
It recognizes the MEF's participation and contribution to the regional sustainable finance agenda.
The MEF assumed this responsibility on September 1, 2026, with technical support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
It will be responsible for coordinating regional dialogue, promoting technical cooperation among member countries, and advancing an agenda aimed at strengthening economic and climate sustainability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The platform comprises the ministries of finance, economy, and treasury of the 26 borrowing countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
It is a regional collaborative space that seeks to promote concrete solutions to address the economic, fiscal, and financial challenges associated with climate change by developing technical tools that strengthen economic policy and contribute to sustainable and resilient growth.
The election of Peru by its peers reflects recognition of the increasingly important role the MEF has been playing in the regional sustainable finance agenda by integrating sustainability and resilience criteria into the country's economic and financial management.
Key achievements include its role as the National Designated Authority for the Green Climate Fund, the development of Peru's Green Finance Taxonomy, and the recent approval of the country's new Sustainable Bond Framework.
The MEF stated that these instruments help create conditions to mobilize capital toward investments aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advance toward a more resilient and competitive economy in the face of climate change challenges.
With this important regional responsibility, Peru strengthens its position as a key player in promoting more sustainable, resilient, and competitive economic development in the face of climate change challenges.
