Peru: MEF Election resources are fully guaranteed

00:30 | Lima, Jan. 27.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) stated that the resources required for the conduct of this year's General Elections are fully guaranteed.

"Regarding the electoral process, the only point I can make is that the resources are fully guaranteed, as they are part of this transitional government's obligation," Deputy Economy Minister Gerardo Lopez said in remarks to Andina News Agency.

"Our authorities have already stated that all necessary authorizations will be put in place to ensure that electoral processes are carried out with full transparency, which is what matters most," he added.

Furthermore, the government official referred to Peru's debt level, noting that it is one of the benchmarks in which Peru stands out among its regional peers.

"Our debt level stands at 32% (of GDP), and we are aiming for it to converge toward 30% over the next 10 years; that is what we are seeking," the deputy minister said.

"It is important to maintain these debt levels because they give the country the strength to address adverse situations with higher debt ceilings, should that be required. But under normal circumstances, such as the current ones, we seek to maintain those levels," Lopez noted.

"It is true that there are debt operations involving bond issuances, and this is a tool that is used provided that the maximum limits are respected. We will likely see some bond issuances, as long as they remain within the established limits," he concluded.
