Thousands of citizens on Thursday started the traditional tour to Seven Churches in Peru's capital city of Lima on the occasion of Holy Week.

Such religious activity symbolizes the journey Jesus made from prison to his crucifixion.

Thus, believers gathered at the most popular temples of the capital, including the Sanctuary of Las Nazarenas, Sanctuary of Santa Rosa de Lima, Coventry of Santo Domingo, Lima's Cathedral, as well as Churches of San Agustin and San Pedro, among others.

At each temple, faithful said prayers and recited Bible passages related to Jesus' sacrifice.

Other attendees took the opportunity to thank God for their good health and that of their loved ones.

The Seven Churches Visitation aims at reviving and reinforcing Holy Week traditions. This event is a great opportunity to meditate and reflect on Christ's sacrifice for mankind.

Holy Week began on March 25 (Palm Sunday) and will run thru April 1 (Easter Sunday).

As is known, Pope Francis visited Peru last January.
