The Lo Justo (Fairness) and Primero la Gente (People First) political parties have joined forces with a view to the 2026 general elections, under the idea of forming a broad centrist platform committed to economic, social, democratic freedoms and justice, former Congresswoman Marisol Perez Tello reported on Tuesday.
Perez Tello indicated that Lo Justo —the party of which she is founder— decided not to continue with electoral registration last May due to the amendments to the electoral legislation approved at Congress, many of which are not defined, such as the rule that removes regional movements and the one that sets the number of members who will comprise the next Parliament.
"Lo Justo was born to stay; it is composed of (ex-Governor) Jean Paul Benavente in Cusco; in Tacna, Ayacucho, and Ucayali, we have leaders who had exercised power responsibly; they have joined Lo Justo and Primero la Gente," she stated.
In turn, Manuel Ato, a leader of Primero la Gente —a party with electoral registration— indicated that this political organization has several leaders, because they consider that there should not be "one owner who appoints the candidates."
"Primero la Gente is the first party to register without appointing a chairman and a general secretary; in charge of the party is a collegiate body, a National Executive Committee where we are all equal," Ato explained.
"We want internal democracy to be the mechanism for appointing candidates," he added.
Ato indicated that it has similarities with Lo Justo in the fight against impunity; the fight against corruption; security and order; economic development; among others.
"We come from different experiences and political projects; currently, it is necessary to unite the people around an ethical development commitment," he told RPP Noticias.
