Peru: Judiciary continues with oral trial against Keiko Fujimori over Cocktails case

The Third National Collegiate Criminal Court continued with the oral trial against Fuerza Popular (Popular Force political party) leader, Keiko Fujimori, and more than 40 defendants over money laundering and other charges.

Held on Tuesday, the session began with the opening statements by the defense lawyer of accused citizen Vicente Silva Checa questioning the indictment by the Prosecutor's Office.

Next, the lawyer of accused Pier Figari Mendoza took the floor, also to contradict the Public Ministry's accusation.

Subsequently, the technical defenses of the accused Ana Herz, Adriana Tarazona, Augusto Bedoya Camere, and Carmela Paucara presented their opening arguments to the criminal court.

Following the presentation by lawyer Pablo Talavera Elguera, who defends businessman Ricardo Briceño, the collegiate court chaired by Judge Juana Caballero ordered a recess at the hearing.

After the recess, the lawyer of defendant Giancarlo Bertini spoke before the Court.

Besides, the defense attorneys of defendants Jorge Trelles Montero, Efrain Goldenberg Schreiber, and Erika Yoshiyama Koga presented their arguments in favor of their clients.

After listening to the requests from some of the lawyers present, Judge Caballero adjourned the session at 12:50 p.m. It will continue on July 22 at 9:00 a.m. (local time).
