The occurrence of a landslide on Thursday early morning at kilometer 333 of Panamericana Sur Highway in the town of San Martin de Porres, which lies in the district of Ocucaje of Ica Province, left dozens of houses flooded and families affected.

The landslide was caused by heavy rains, which started to fall in the afternoon of Wednesday, March 15, in Ica's Yauca del Rosario district.

The residents managed to salvage some of their belongings such as beds, tables, chairs, among other things

Moreover, they used buckets to remove the water from their homes and formed mounds of soil to divert the water flow into open land so as to prevent precarious homes from collapsing.

The water continues to flow at a lower flow rate and hinders vehicular traffic, leading to queues of heavy-duty trucks, interprovincial buses, and private vehicles that stretch for up to 10 kilometers (from north to south).

Restricted traffic at km 337

Vehicular traffic is restricted at kilometer 337, particularly at the entrance to the town of Pinilla in Ocucaje district because some vehicles got stuck while trying to cross the road due to the strong flow of water.

Last night, a new landslide occurred due to heavy rains in the towns of Casa Blanca and Pampahuasi in Yauca del Rosario district, trapping an interprovincial bus that traveled from Lima to Puno.

Members of the Ica Fire Department rescued dozens of passengers from said bus. The rescue operation ended at about 2 a.m. (local time).
